Recent Project Enhances Air Quality On Gaming Floor at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino
A recently completed major air exchange system project at Lake of the Torches provides an enhanced environment for guests enjoying the many amenities on its gaming floor.
The project, which began last September, replaced the air flow system in the casino with new state of the art equipment, resulting in a 500 percent increase in fresh air flow in the casino and a comfortable environment for all guests while operating in an efficient, environmentally-friendly manner.
“Our guests will enjoy enhanced air quality and a comfortable environment throughout the gaming floor,” said Chief Executive Officer Bill Guelcher. “We invite you to visit us to experience the enhanced environment on our gaming floor.”
Approximately 60,000 cubic feet per minute of fresh Northwoods air is conditioned by the newly installed equipment and introduced through air diffusers located in the floor. This equates to two air changes every three minutes in the breathing zone to enhance air quality for all guests on the gaming floor.
The system increases circulation inside the casino by allowing the air to rise up and be drawn off the ceiling. This exhaust air is then transferred to an air-handling unit where heat energy is extracted twice for reuse to pre-condition the air.
In addition, a new hybrid modulating LP gas boiler plant will produce hot water for heating the air. The combination of air handling units, chillers, boilers and a state of the art control system provides conditioned air into the casino at a very high and sustainable energy efficiency. Also, the system allows for humidification of the air during the cold and dry winter months. This new plant is scalable to allow for an expansion of the casino in the future.
Assisting Lake of the Torches and its Engineering Department with the project were ALV Engineering, Mechanical Incorporated, CR Meyer, VanErt Electric, Plutchak Fabrication, AES Controls and Hurkman Installation.
